Predictably Irrational by Dan Ariely

”┬áI do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do” (Romans 7:15, NIV).

Have you ever wondered why people act foolishly instead of wisely, dishonestly instead of with integrity?

The author, Dan Ariely, summarizes the findings of over a dozen experiments and–with great sensitivity and humor and enthusiasm–synthesizes the results in a fascinating and well-reasoned conclusion: “we are pawns in a game whose forces we largely fail to comprehend.”

This is not as depressing and fatalistic as it sounds.

Rather, Ariely suggests that since we can predict with some precision how people will react in different situations, we can use these tendencies to help people make better long-term decisions. The book Nudge draws a similar conclusion.

If you are looking for a deep book, one with excellent research and challenging conclusions, then I give this book my highest recommendation.
