Psalm 25:6-7

January 30, 2013 1 comment

Remember, Lord, your great mercy and love,
for they are from of old.
Do not remember the sins of my youth
and my rebellious ways;
according to your love remember me,
for you, Lord, are good (NIV).

When all the Israelites saw the fire coming down and the glory of the Lord above the temple, they knelt on the pavement with their faces to the ground, and they worshiped and gave thanks to the Lord, saying,

Queen of Sheba

The queen of Sheba complimented King Solomon:

How happy your people must be! How happy your officials, who continually stand before you and hear your wisdom! Praise be to the Lord your God, who has delighted in you and placed you on the throne of Israel. Because of the Lord’s eternal love for Israel, he has made you king to maintain justice and righteousness (1 Kings 10:8-9, NIV).

David and Jonathan

After David had finished talking with Saul, Jonathan became one in spirit with David, and he loved him as himself. From that day Saul kept David with him and did not let him return home to his family. And Jonathan made a covenant with David because he loved him as himself. Jonathan took off the robe he was wearing and gave it to David, along with his tunic, and even his sword, his bow and his belt (1 Samuel 18:1-4, NIV).

A Year with G.K. Chesterton, ed. by Kevin Belmonte

January 20, 2013 Leave a comment

If you’re a fan of G.K. Chesterton, then you’ll enjoy this book.

Mr. Belmonte has compiled many of Chesterton’s best works and divided them into bit-sized pieces.

This is quite an accomplishment given Chesterton’s dense style.

Every day includes a brief scripture reading, and many days include tidbits about what happened to the Chesterton family on that date.

The material is not new, but it is well-structured and enjoyable.

Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for this unbiased review.

More Love

January 20, 2013 Leave a comment

The Navigator study system I’ve been following for the past five years devotes no more than 2 weeks to a word or topical study in its nine-year sequence of study, with the exception of The Second Coming of Christ, which gets top billing with three weeks scheduled.

This means a person spends the same amount of time on Love as on Judgment and Hell or Sin or Satan.

Hmm.

Think I’ll deviate from the suggested pacing and add some more time exploring the concept of Love in the Bible.

God is love, after all!
