Fasting by Scot McKnight

January 17, 2014 Leave a comment

Scot McKnight offers a comprehensive overview of the spiritual discipline of fasting.

His primary thesis is that, “Fasting is the natural, inevitable response of a person to a grievous sacred moment in life.”

He emphasizes that fasting is a response to these grievous sacred moments, not a ploy to get our way.

I found his broad, historical viewpoint helpful, and I recommend this book highly to anyone who is interested in learning more about this ancient practice.

Compassion

Brothers and sisters, if someone you know loses his way and rebels against God, pursue him in love and bring him back to the truth. Know this: If you turn a sinner back from the error of his ways, then you will rescue him from the grips of death and cover the pain and consequences of untold sins (vv. 19-20, The Voice).
